Zone Levels
Wondering where you can quest at your level? Look no further. Zones not marked as Alliance- or Horde-Controlled are Contested Zones. On PvP servers this means your PvP flag is always on in these zones. These zones often have both Alliance and Horde settlements, but sometimes only one or the other, neutral cities (such as goblin cities), or cities allied with other factions (such as the Argent Dawn).
Alliance-Controlled and Contested Kalimdor
Levels: Zone Name - Frequency of quests
- 1-10: Teldrassil - Alliance Controlled - Night Elf Starting Zone (technically not part of Kalimdor)
- 10-20: Darkshore - Alliance Controlled
- 15-20: Stonetalon Mountains - Horde Favored
- 18-30: Ashenvale - Alliance Favored
- 25-35: Thousand Needles - Horde Favored
- 30-40: Desolace - Horde Favored, has a series of neutral quests from Centaur
- 35-45: Dustwallow Marsh
- 40-50: Feralas
- 40-50: Tanaris - Neutral Goblin City (Gadgetzan - gryphons, neutral Horde/Alliance auction house)
- 45-55: Azshara (incomplete with very few quests)
- 48-55: Felwood
- 48-55: Un'Goro Crater (location of Devilsaurs and Linken's Quest)
- 55-60: Winterspring - Neutral Goblin City (Everlook - gryphons)
- N/A: Moonglade - Druid Controlled (only Alliance and Horde Druids allowed)
- Unknown: Silithus - This zone is very incomplete. There are NPCs and enemies, but no quests and no enemies drop anything.
Horde-Controlled Kalimdor
Levels: Zone Name
- 1-10: Durotar - Horde Controlled - Orc/Troll Starting Zone
- 1-10: Mulgore - Horde Controlled - Tauren Starting Zone
- 10-25: The Barrens - Horde Controlled - Horde Favored - Neutral Goblin City (Ratchet - bank, boat, no gryphons) (Huge zone, must be biggest in the game)
Alliance-Controlled and Contested Eastern Kingdoms
Levels: Zone Name - Frequency of quests
- 1-10: Dun Morogh - Alliance Controlled - Dwarf/Gnome Starting Zone
- 1-10: Elwynn Forest - Alliance Controlled - Human Starting Zone
- 10-20: Westfall - Alliance Controlled - Human Favored
- 10-20: Loch Modan - Alliance Controlled - Dwarf Favored
- 15-25: Redridge Mountains - Alliance Favored
- 18-30: Duskwood - Alliance Favored
- 20-30: Hillsbrad Foothills
- 20-30: Wetlands - Alliance Favored
- 30-40: Alterac Mountains
- 30-40: Arathi Highlands
- 30-45: Stranglethorn Vale - Neutral Goblin City (Booty Bay - bank, boat, gryphons) (Huge zone, and a popular favorite)
- 35-45: Badlands
- 35-45: Swamp of Sorrows
- 43-50: Searing Gorge
- 45-50: The Hinterlands
- 45-55: Blasted Lands (Contains the Dark Portal! Also an Altar of Storms.)
- 50-58: Burning Steppes
- 51-58: Western Plaguelands - Scourge-infested
- 53-60: Eastern Plaguelands - Scourge-infested
- 53-60: Deadwind Pass - Incomplete zone, no quests here excluding a Swamp of Sorrows quest. Contains Medivh's tower.

- 10-20: Silverpine Forest - Horde Controlled - Undead Favored

- 15-20 - Deadmines - Westfall ("DM", also refered to as "VC" refering to the boss, Edward Van Cleef)
- 18-25 - Shadowfang Keep - Silverpine Forest (Horde instance, aside from Paladin and Warlock quests)
- 23-26 - The Stockades - Stormwind City ("Stockades")
- 24-33 - Gnomeregan - Dun Morogh ("Gnomeregan", "GR")
- 35-45 - Uldaman - Badlands ("Uldaman", "Ulda")
- 44-50 - The Sunken Temple - Swamp of Sorrows ("ST", "Temple", "Sunken Temple", "Temple of Atal'Hakkar")
- 48-56 - Blackrock Depths - Burning Steppes ("BRD")
